When the issuing of tender tickets begins, they do inform you that the first hour and a half is dedicated just to those who want to go to Cayo Levantado, and then they begin the process for Samana. Cayo Levantado is a beautiful private island/beach type resort. If you like the beach, you will love this place! All three tender docks are very close to the town, just a few minutes walk.

The verdant peninsula of Samana is paradise found for nature enthusiasts. Somewhat remote and removed from the tourist trail, this patch of paradise is home to one of the most important rain forests and mangrove reserves in the Caribbean. And its crystal-clear coast features some of the best diving on the northern side of the Dominican Republic. So pop on your flippers. In some spots you can see up to 150 feet!
Some consider Samana Bay to be the best place in the world to watch whales. Every January thousands of Humpbacks migrate south to Samana Bay and during mating season you can find up to 300 at any given time. Come catch a glimpse of these magnificent mammals as they frolic, sing, and show off.
Hike or go horseback riding up to the beautiful El Salto del Limón. Its hundred-foot waterfall features a refreshing natural swimming pool - ideal for cooling off after a long hike.
In Samana you can stroll around the seaside promenade, or go a block inland for restaurants and some shopping.
Most cruisers take an excursion here, ship or self organized. Hiring a taxi is your best bet here, especially if you share one.
In Samana itself rickshaws are a good alernative.
