Monthly Climate Averages for Nauplia Greece
Nafplio (or Navplion, Nauplia or Navplio) is on the eastern shores of the Peloponnese. The name is the remnant of the old venetian name Napoli di Romania, from the greek "nea poli"="new town" of Romania, the name of the area during the late byzantine times.
Nafplion is a port, with fishing and transport ongoing, although the primary source of local employment currently is tourism, with two beaches on the other side of the peninsula from the main body of the town and a large amount of local accommodation. There is now a railway station with daily trains from/to Athens (OSE).
Two hilltop fortresses and a miniature castle on an island in the harbor.
Nauplion is a moderate size town in the mid eastern Peloponnese of Greece. It is located in an picture perfect place on the Argolic Gulf with its rocky shores and mighty castle looking into calm blue water.
With its marble pavements, looming castles and remarkable homogeneous architecture, Nauplion (Náfplio) is the most elegant town in mainland Greece. Defended to the south by the Akronafplía and Palamídi fortresses and to the north by Bourtzi castle, the town occupies the northern side of a peninsula at the head of the Argolic Gulf.
Hop on/off buses (8 Euro) leave right from the tender dock every half an hour, when there is a cruise ship in town and will take you after a short city tour to the impressive Palamídi fortress, high above town. Entrance to the fort is 8 Euro, children and 65+ 4 Euro.
There is also a little tourist train, run by the same company (4 Euro) which takes you about the same route, except the Palamídi fortress.
Taxis are also offering tours.
Napflion is a beautiful little city to just wander around. You can climb up to the fortress (857 steps) if you're so inclined, or just wander the little streets and sit in the square.
Getting around within the town, recently, has been a lot easier, for those that love bicycles. The municipality is giving free bicycles for a day, just in front of the Town Hall, by the KTEL bus station.

Epidaurus: Epidaurus is one of the most famous ancient sites in Greece. Greeks recognized Epidaurus as the birthplace of Asclepius, the god of healing. As such, Epidaurus was renowned for its sanctuary that had unique spa medical facilities and healing treatments. There is also the 3rd century theater, which is one of the best preserved classical Greek buildings. The theater at Epidaurus has amazing acoustics. A coin dropped in the center of the 14.000 seat theater can be heard from the highest seat. In the summer, special performances are held at the theater at Epidaurus.
Mycenae: Mycenae is famous for its link to Homer's tales of the glory of war. Mycenae may have been founded as early as the 14th century BC. The highly developed Mycenaean civilization of the Bronze Age was based in the area. A tour of the ruins at Mycenae will go to the citadel or Acropolis (high city) through the Lion Gate, which is believed to have borne the insignia of the Royal House of Atreus. Other interesting features at Mycenae include the Cyclopean Walls, the Circle of Tombs, and the well preserved Beehive Tomb.
The town is famous for its kombolois or worry-beads, made from amber and other materials. There is a museum for kombolois as well as many such shops.
