Monthly Climate Averages for Makemo Tuamotu Archipel French Polynesia
Located at 500 kilometers East from Tahiti, at 1h30 by plane, Makemo
is the third largest atoll of the Tuamotu: Its lagoon has a width ranging
from 5-8 kilometers (3-5 miles), but its length is 65 kilometers (40
miles), running from the northwest to the southeast. About 588 inhabitants
leave mainly in the village of Pouheva, situated near the two passes,
diving sites well known for their diversity and the exuberance of the
fauna.
John Buyers was the first European to discover Makemo, along with
the atolls of Taenga and Faaite. Makemo is the homeland of legendary
hero Moeava, a famous warrior who accomplished many feats in the
Tuamotu Archipelago. Fishing and copra is the major source of income
for the inhabitants. Pearl farming is in full development. The different
pink sand beaches motu, the pure emerald lagoon make Makemo a heavenly
destination which beckon you to while away the days enjoying the
