Formentera is a real island, as it does not have an airport and is only accessible by sea. However, Formentera's virtues – wonderful state of preservation, tranquillity, etc. – are largely due to this isolation.
Hire a bike at the dock and get off and around this sleepy island and you see salt pans, fish hanging out in the sun to dry, ancient windmills and megalithic remains.
