Anguilla Cruise Port Guide

Location:

Smaller cruise ships dock at Blowing Point Port. At the pier you will see plenty of shopping, eating, and traveling opportunities.

Some ships anchor and will tender you to the Road Bay tender pier which is about 5km to the north.

Taxis are the only true way to travel around Anguilla. Also, there is no need to worry about the rates of taxis here because they have fixed fares regulated by the government. When your ship docks on Anguilla there will be plenty of taxis for you to choose from.

Sightseeing:

Swimming, snorkeling and diving opportunities abound on some of the finest beaches in the Caribbean, along the coastal areas of Anguilla. Fine restaurants, art galleries, historic homes, and museums compensate for the lack of shopping and nightlife in Anguilla. The residents of Anguilla are easy going and friendly on this small, lightly populated island.

Tours Excursions Transportation:

For most visitors, a rented car is the best option if staying overnight.

One sight to see that is quite a fun excursion is the Old Factory (The Valley, 264/497-2759). This is the historic site where cotton was produced and exported to England. As you walk inside, you can see much of the original ginning machinery. If you like this bit of history, why not hear about a tale involving high living, murder, and the French invasion of 1796. Learn all about this story at the Wallblake House (Wallblake Rd., the Valley, 264/497-6613). This is a plantation house that contains beautiful woodwork dating back to 1787.

It pays to compare your cruise line shore excursions here.

Nearby Places:

The beach is what Anguilla is known for but with so many offered, it is hard to discern which would be the best pick for your individual tastes. For the active and sporty visitor, Barnes Bay (Northwest Coast) is the best spot for windsurfing and snorkeling. Road Bay (Northwest Coast) is quite commercial but it doesn't take away from its beauty. One of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean is the Shoal Bay East (Southeast Coast). The coconut trees make you realize that you are indeed in a tropical paradise.

Shopping and Food

Without rampant duty-free shopping and other tourist attractions, Anguilla is not among the most popular destinations for cruise liners in the Caribbean. Still, there are several cruise lines that are drawn to Anguilla's peaceful seclusion, good food, and unparalleled beaches.
